Being fitter not only makes you look and feel better, it has many pay-offs for your health. It strengthens your heart and bones and improves your circulation. It can also help lower blood pressure, control your weight and reduce stress levels, all of which reduce your risk of suffering from serious illness such as heart disease or diabetes.

The golden rules of activity are to start gently, to build up gradually and to do it regularly. If you would like sound advice on how to improve your general fitness through activity please ask either a doctor or make an appointment with our practice nurse. A programme of "Exercise on Recommendation" is available through referral from a doctor. This involves an eight week course at the local leisure centre. The programme is tailor made for each individual patient and can be beneficial to conditions such as asthma, diabetes, smoking, stress, obesity, depression, arthritis and weight improvement.
